CRX07 attracted over 400 attendees

The Clinical Research Excellence Conference 2007 attracted over 400 delegates from over 140 national and international clinical research organisations, and created the opportunity for individuals to learn, exchange knowledge and ideas, network, and obtain skills for future Clinical Research success.

The theme of this years conference was ‘Building the Clinical Research Profession’, and we believe through the execution of the dynamic program sessions, panel discussions and partnership events, CRX07 has made a significant step in the right direction for facilitating growth and further development in Australian clinical research.

This year, CRX07 was fortunate to have a mix of 37 speakers including two international speakers, all very highly regarded in their field, who offered unique and skilled approaches to current clinical research issues. The trade exhibition provided a diverse menu of clinical research providers and services, with 62 Scientific Posters on display, showcasing the high level of skill and exciting projects currently existing in Australian NHMRC Clinical Centres of Research Excellence (CCREs).

The Clinical Partnerships Forum was the first time the capabilities of Australia’s CCRE’s had been put on show in a single event. All attendees utilised the networking opportunities provided by this successful event, and were encouraged to use the information and contacts gained as a platform to facilitate future partnerships and collaborative programs between industry and researchers.

CRX07 is proud of the close working relationship it built this year with the ACRP. The conference represented the inaugural ACRP national conference in Australia and the Chair, Ms Christine Pierre, attended the meeting, presented and chaired several sessions. We also established a formalised ACRP ANZ Chapter with 6 subchapters with John Morrison awarded the ACRP Australian Chapter Trainer of the Year . We also floated the ACRP certification as a global benchmark in clinical research.

Finally, the Big Band era of the 1940’s set the scene for the Conference dinner where delegates relaxed, dined and danced the night away and were given a speech highlighting the need for reinvigoration of clinical research within Australian public hospitals by Professor David Penington AC, while the BBQ lunch on Sunday was a time to reflect and be motivated by the talent within the industry, and the groundbreaking outcomes we are striving for in the future.

In closing, we believe this meeting successfully addressed some of the key issues facing the clinical research industry today, and through doing so worked to create frameworks and future strategies for further discussion, and ultimately ways we can work together to achieve further local and international success.

On behalf of the CRX07 Organising Committee, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for making this inaugural conference the great success it was, and I look forward to seeing you all at CRX08, 18 – 20 August 2008, in Queensland.

Professor Peter Ebeling
Chair
